Family

Some people think of this word as a place or people to go home to. But others just think of family as people that they have to live with, never experiencing the “normal” way of life. Where the mother and father argue but not when the children are present. The mom looks out for her children and tries to put them on the right path. She cooks them breakfast and dinner and maybe a few snacks in-between. She is always there when they need her and more importantly supports whatever their decision in life is and always says “I love you” even when they are mad or emotionally upset; and same for the father. But in this case, this household is so broken that they don’t even know what family is. The oldest wants to go away for college, do his own thing and get a degree in nursing. But none of his parents know about this; they don’t communicate with each other so they wouldn’t know. Basically half of the night his dad is drunk, every night of everyday of every week of every year for his whole childhood. All of that time was wasted. He could be sober catching up on his children’s day or just having father-son moments. His dad isn’t a happy drunk; he is simply an angry drunk that is always mad at someone or something. The young boy once said “I don’t remember the last time I said I love you to my parents, but I do remember the last time I said I love you to my little brother. I said we are going to have stick together.”
